In this paper, Firstly, the author introduces the research achievements and research orientation on generator protection. Secondly, by use of the selected blocks from Power System Library in Matlab, the author sets up a generator-infinite system and simulates the loss of excitation fault. Based on the simulation, the author analyzes the dynamic process and gives reasonable explanation. Then the author uses a three-layer ANN to distinguish excitation-loss fault, and brings forward a scheme of excitation-loss protection using ANN for generator. Thirdly, a new integrated criterion of generator stator ground protection based on pattern recognition, which subjection coefficient is determined by genetic algorithm, is proposed; and a digital simulation of generator stator ground fault by EMTP is used to test the protection. Finally, the author designs the part of setting calculation software including partial or total loss of excitation protection.
