Geomagnetic storm is possible to induce geomagnetically induced current (GIC) andmany ill-effects in high-voltage power grid. In the past few years, many disturbancesproduced by GIC have been found in our country's power grid, so it is of greatimportance to research the GIC in the grid. This paper mainly study the GIC-monitoringtechnology, for the monitor results is the basis to analyze GIC' s influence and ill-effectson the power grid. Considering the development of our country's power grid, the paper analyzed theGIC' s possible in-effects on the grid, which improved that it is essential to establish GICmonitoring and pre-alarming system in our country. Two different GIC-abstractingmethods are put out based on the GIC' s formation mechanism and its characteristic,and the arithmetic to analyze GIC is presented through simulation. The software andhardware design of the GIC monitoring and pre-alarming system is accomplished, andthe key problems in the programming, such as the GIC signal abstraction, sample, andanalysis, power equipments' operation parameters recording when GIC is abnormal, isresolved. The research proved that the signal-abstracting methods and arithmetic isfeasible.
