The landing gear brake is the equipment which transforms kinetic energy to heat energy through the friction produced by the brake discs. The material of brake is the determinant factor for the weight, performance and lifespan. The development of the design of landing gear brake is discussed. Here the object is disc style brake system. With the research of the friction material, the theoretic arithmetic of the design of brake system contain can be educed, as well as the thermal load and the friction couple. The major research work is about transient temperature analysis of a multiple disc brake system. After building an approximate model, a numerical analytical platform is programmed with Visual C++. With this platform, the temperature of a brake system is simulated. The conclusion of the simulation shows that the approximate model is feasible. The inner temperature of brake discs is much higher than the boundary. The maximum temperature is found to occur between the mid and outer radiuses of discs. The trend of temperature according to time is increase, keeping then decrease. Through changing the value of parameters, the thermal optimization methods are found, such as increasing the heat transfer coefficient, installing heat insulation equipments and using new friction material with large heat capacity. Based on the analysis, the landing gear brake system is improved by way of thermal design, and several practical amendments are raised.
