The optimal design of Sewerage networks has been more broadly and deeply studied by many domestic and foreign scholars because of its important status in Sewerage treatment engineering. The scholars advanced many kinds of optimal methods , but these methods all have some limitation on practice.The Wangtang Sewerage networks in Hefei is a engineering project of grand scale and high investment. In the service area topography is varied, the pipes are parallel or not to the ground, which is integrated with the flat, slight and steep slopes. So it's very necessary and significant to structure an applicable model of good function and strange adaptability to engage in optimal calculation of Sewerage networks.Genetic algorithms (GA) is a searching and optimal one founded during the process of imitating biological evolution. It calls for no special requirement of target function and restrictive qualifications. And it has the characteristics such as simple thinking, wide adaptability, strong capability to seek the superior overall. During these years it has shown greater vitality in the optimal area of Sewerage networks.The paper introduces in detail calculating methods of Sewerage networks , analyzes its complex restrictive qualifications and summarizes the factors which influence the results in optimal design of Sewerage networks. Applying methods of natural number coding, effective collection of pipe diameter, random choice and comparison and so on, it takes all investment of Sewerage networks as target function and sets up the GA model on optimal design of Sewerage networks based on simple genetic algorithms (SGA) by means of taking some effective measures on the way of coding, crossover operator, mutation operator and some parameters setting, Finally, the GA model is verified by its application on engineering project of the Wangtang Sewerage networks.
