The mathematical model for Voltage Source Converter Based High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) transmission is presented in the thesis. Based on the model, steady state PID controllers are developed for the cases of supplying power to active and passive systems respectively. As is verified by the simulation on PSCAD/EMTDC, the controllers are capable of following reference adjustment and power reversal. Meanwhile, a physical test model, whose converters comprise of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), is built up for the case of feeding power to passive system. TMS320LF2407A is used as the control kernel of the model to accomplish the task of constant DC voltage control on rectifier side and constant AC voltage control on inverter side. The laboratory model can be utilized as a platform for further study and the laboratory results prove VSC-HVDC's excellent performance on control. This project is supported by Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education, the State Education Ministry of China No.20010079001.
