With the fast urbanization development of China, it is just the important period of shaping reasonable city spatial structure, and also is the sensitive phase of readjusting city transportation. It needs to enhance this readjustment and take effective measures to develop public traffic primly, especially mass transportation, which is the basic measure of making full use of limited lands and traffic resources, resolving traffic jam and perfecting the urban spatial forms. Therefore, starting from researching the function that mass transportation performs to the development of city spatial structure and complementing existing theories on the shortage of guiding and supporting the city framework, it is put forward the planning thinking that should make use of the guiding function to plan the city layout in metropolis of China in the paper. By studying the interaction between the city spatial structure and the transportation systems, it is argued the importance of reasonable transportation mode to the city spatial structure layout. According to the situation of city spatial structure and traffic in China, it is indicated that metropolis in China should choose the polycentric development pattern along Radical Axes guided by mass transportation in this paper. Analyzing the function performed by mass transportation from Macro and Micro view, it is elaborated influencing factors, and put forward some related advice such as laying out the mass transit according to the use of urban land, setting the stations reasonably and improving traffic transfer system. Otherwise, it is introduced and explained the Node-Line method based on this planning thinking here. This method can ensure that mass transit will efficiently serve urban layout form of polycentric pattern along radical axes. In the end, combining the example of the orbit construction of Nanjing City, it is analyzed the guiding function to the spatial structure of the Nanjing City after the mass transit system has been shaped in the future in this paper.
