High-Speed-Railway exists in the world for 40 years, but it is planed out at present in China. It is certain that HSR will be constructed in China in the near future. As a start of Chinese HSR construction, the Qinhuangdao-Shenyang high-speed railway special for passenger transport has been constructed with the highest test-speed 321.8km/h. It is a good foundation to construct Beijing-Shanghai HSR with run-speed over 300km/h. Safety is always important for railway transportations. It is a precondition that the Traction Power Supply System operates safely and reliably to ensure the train running safely.The protection of the Power Supply System plays an important role to ensure the system feeding the train safely and reliably. Comparing with the regular-speed railway, HSR has higher speed, more power and AC-DC-AC locomotive will run on the line. These characteristics will bring forward new demands to the protection of the system. To ensure the Power Supply System operates safely, there is a big step to go at the technology. The experiences from regular speed railway indicates that the fault ratios of power supply networks and traction transformers in China are higher than other countries and the wrong operation of protective devices often occurs in Chinese Power Supply Systems by reason of the technical and management levels. In the thesis, the author pays attention to the characteristics of HSR Power Supply System and new requests, difficulties it brings to the protection. The purpose is to systematically study the protective principles of feeder and transformer in Traction Power Supply Systems of HSR and to resolve some technical problems for the construction of Chinese HSR and to improve the present protective principles, functions and reliability. On the basis of protection basic requirement (selectivity, sensitivity, security, speediness) a set of protection scheme is brought forward adaptive to HSR.In this thesis, firstly, author simply introduces the composition of Traction Power Supply System and its operation principles.The AC-DC-AC locomotive is simulated by the tools Matlab/Simulink. On the basis of HSR operating features, the refusing operation and wrong operation mechanism of the feeder protection of the line on which the AC-DC-AC locomotive is adopted is analyzed in detail.
