With more and more highways being constructed in mountainous areas, high rock-filled embankment becomes one of the roadbed forms in these areas which are popularly applied. Calculation and forecast of the settlement for high rock-filled embankment, especially the settlement after construction, has been a key problem about whether engineering can be constructed successfully or not. There is important significance for theory and application of engineering.Based on practical measuring data in engineering, the hyperbola-shaped constitutive model which has three parameters and can reflect the law of creep deformation after construction for high rock-filled embankment is firstly proposed in this paper combined with the research of the mechanism settlement and character eristic of the high rock-filled embankment engineering. And the back-analysis way that the model's parameters are determined has been brought forward with introduction of genetic algorithm and finite element method. Then, the calculation method of the settlement after construction for high rock-filled embankment is deeply discussed using finite element method for creep and with effect of time considered , a relevant back analytic program is developed on Visual Fortran6.5 platform. Furthermore, in light of Duncan-Chang nonlinear elastic model, the theory and method to determine the settlement curve of high rock-filled embankment has been built. Finally, the reliability and rationality of the constitutive model proposed in this paper and the computational method of the settlement during construction period and after construction for high rock-filled embankment is deeply probed by combining with the research project of the method of constructing high rock-filled embankment of secondary class highway RENZAI in GuangXi Zhuang autonomous region. It is indicated by analysis on the example of practical engineering that both the constitutive model which has three parameters and reflects the law of creep deformation after construction for high rock-filled embankment and the computational means of settlement after construction are plain and meet the request of engineering practice, and a new computation method for the after-construction settlement of high rock-filled embankment is elementarily established.
