Wood is one of the oldest known materials of construction, and it is the only naturally renewable building material. But nowadays some disadvantages are existing in global forest resources, such as the shortage of amounts, out of tune at structure etc., which caused the contradication between supplies and demands of timber are gradually sharp. Glued-laminated timber, which reserved the original advantage of wood, and strengthenned the strength of timber, make inferior timbers a feasible candidate for wood structures and strongly promote the development of wood constructions. Thus investigation on the flexural behaviors of lower-grade glulam members meeting the Chinese situation has significant theoretical and applied values.In this paper, according to analysis on research findings of glulam structure at home and abroad, based on experimental research and theoretical analysis, investigations on behaviors of Yiyang glulam beams were made systematically. The main contents and results included in the following items.1 Based on physical properties of Poplar, presented the producing technology of Poplar glulam, and some influential factors, such as moisture content, lamination placing, glue binding and shapping pressure were discussed.2 Five specimens of Poplar glulam were designed. By dead-loading test, this paper analysis the distribution of stress and strain, failure mechanism and so on. Moreover, this paper derives the bending performance of Poplar glulam. Experimental results showed that proposed in this paper possessed sufficient strength and stiffness, and could meet the requirements for construction.3 Based on experimental results and regression analysis of Poplar glulam, the effects of member's volumes and lamination's tensile strength on bending strength of glulam and the effects of lamination's layers on elastic modules of Poplar glulam were discussed.4 Grounding on the calculational theories of material mechanics and structural mechanics, this paper derives the simple formula of the ultimate flexural loading of Poplar glulam beams and discussed some influence factors of the ultimate flexural loading of Poplar glulam beams.
