The tribopairs of cylinder liner piston rings in an internal combustion engine are a typical tribological system with different kinds of friction and wear in which the interactions between lubrication, friction and wear is particularly obvious. The tribological properties in the system play a significant role within the operation of engine. In order to solve the lubrication and wear-resisting problems, a lot of domestic and international automobile engineers have put into a large amount of research work seeking assiduously for a long time, still exploring so far.On the base of laser transformation hardening and mechanical honing, laser honing which can remove metal material by using laser heat effect is brought forward to processing cylinder wall. In this paper, firstly, the lubrication and wear-resisting mechanism of the surface with regular micro-structure is studied and the corresponding lubricated theory model is also developed. And then, use modified multi-grid method to solve the theory model, and cylinder wall surface micro geometry shape parameters are designed and optimized. Secondly, through the laser craft test, the rational laser honing craft parameters are determined, which are used to process the flat sample and internal-combustion engine cylinder wall. Finally, do the lubricating and wearing experiment on flat and cylinder wall, study the lubrication and wear-resisting characteristic of tribopairs by laser honing, compare with the theoretical research, draw the best micro geometry shape parameters of laser honing.
