Because of its notable characteristic, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is applied extensively in motorcycle transmission system. The motorcycle manufacturing industry is one of several pillar industries in Chongqing. The volume of production and marketing of motorcycle in Chongqing accounts for more than 35% of the volume of production and marketing of motorcycle in China. So, the performance of improving the CTV has great meanings to the core competition which improves the motorcycle industry of our city. So far, in the domestic motor garage industry, CVT is mainly copied and assembled through importing component according to foreign design criterion. The CTV has greater disparity with the foreign same product on performance. Therefore, a lot of problems about design remain unsolved: In CVT designing, wedge angle of belt is often bigger than wedge angle of pulley. So, in the static state, because of the self-locking phenomenon arose by friction, no matter how exert heavy axial force on pulley it is impossible to make the work radius of the belt changed; While CVT is working, the work radius of the V-belt can be changed with the change of axial force. Meanwhile, the elastic deformation of V-belt which arose by forced on the belt will impact on the speed adjustment factors( as central distance of pulley) and transmission efficiency of the CVT. All these need to be considered in CVT designing. To the above situations, this paper has carried on the following research: 1.Systematically analysis the elastic deformation of the V-belt's influence on the speed adjustment factors of the CVT, and provide the quantitative analysis formulae. 2.Doing the contact finite element analysis between V-belt and pulley. Through analyzing the model that the CVT turns into the working radius, it is reached the relation between the axial pressure and pull acting on the V-belt and contact radius for making CVT working normally. 3.Conducting the experiment to the material parameter of the V-belt. Having obtained the material parameter of the V-belt while drawn and compressed, and having drawn the conclusion on regarding V-belt as the single material while analyzing. 4. Carrying on the experiment of V-belt in operation for validating the analysis result of finite element analysis. And verified the exactness and dependability of the analysis result of finite element analysis through experiment. The research contents of this paper is an important part in the work of " research of developing key technology of motorcycle ", which is the important research projects of State Scientific and Technological Commission in Chongqing. This research has offered important reference for the design of CVT.
