Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) has become indispensable for developing newproducts. It is very important to use CAE software and software for the numericalsimulation of the mechanical behavior of the key parts in the new product developmentof automobile air-condition compressors.In this paper, key parts of some compressors, which are being developed by theAir-Conditioner Company of Chongqing Construction Group Inc., are investigated bymeans of finite element numerical simulation. The geometrical models of thecomponents of the compressors are constructed by means of Pro/E, and, in turn,imported into ABAQUS/CAE, in which the finite element numerical simulations arecarried out. Using the ABAQUS/Explicit, three key parts, the piston of PXV16compressor, belt pulley and armature of JSS-120A compressor, which includecomplicated contacts, are firstly simulated. Static strength analyses of piston of JS-320compressor and two mount states of JSS-96HZ2V4B compressor are then performed bymeans of ABAQUS/Standard. Finally, modal analysis of the whole PXV16 compressormodel is carried out with ABAQUS/Standard, and the natural frequencies and thecorresponding modes of the compressor are obtained.Some problems encountered in the new product development are solved with theassistance of finite element numerical simulation. More important, numerical simulationprocedures of components of compressors using CAD and FEM software are set upthrough this research works, which behaves very important practical significance in thenew product development.
