With the development of express highway, rise of oil price and promulgation of strict law, the request on dynamic characteristics, fuel economy, driving stability and comfort is increasing. The research on automotive aerodynamics has become an important part of technique in automotive industry. Minibus, because of its shape is different from other types automobile, the aerodynamic research on minibus can help us know deeply its aerodynamic characteristics and help us improve the dynamic characteristics, fuel economy, driving stability and comfort. So the research is very significant. In this paper, the theory of numerical simulation on minibus'external flow field is stated, the calculation tool is introduced. The advantage and disadvantage of 3 different turbulent models used in numerical simulation are discussed. The effect of three different schemes of computational grid on calculation precision and time are also been discussed. Through the numerical simulation, the aerodynamic characteristics and the external flow field are obtained. The main reasons caused aerodynamic drag is clarified. Through fluid-status-display technique, this paper observes the characteristics of external flow field and the distribution of pressure. Based on the research above, this paper also does some research on the influence on aerodynamic characteristics of accessories and grooves on body surface. Based on the minibus'aerodynamic characteristics, two schemes for reducing aerodynamic drag of minibus are proposed. The possibility of two schemes is discussed.
