Automatic gear shifting is the target which people are seeking over a long period of time. It is the significant sign of automobile evolving to the advanced stage and the important technology which desiderate developing and spreading. The automobile with automatic transmission (AT) has smooth gearshifting and convenient operation. Moreover, it can automatically gearshift in term of optimal occasion, redounding to the improvement of dynamic performance and fuel economy. The amount of cars with AT has increased greatly all over the world. Internal automobile industry of China is in developmental period and domestic cars are increasing gradually of late years. For satisfing the curbstone drivers'request for simple handle, many manufacturers have considered AT as their development direction. In the course of AT researching, developing and matching with the entire vehicle, the characteristics of torque converter and transmission, together with the integral performance of the power train which mainly consists of engine and automatic transmission, need to be analysed. Using the Lingyang car which equipped with 3AT as an object, a series of research work is carried through in this paper. The primary contents are listed as follow: (1) Based on the engine performance test and torque converter performance test, the mathematic models of engine and torque converter are established using curve fitting method; and the input and output characteristics of both working are also analyzed. (2) According to the acceleration characteristic and whole vehicle fuel consumption characteristic, the dynamic performance and fuel economy shift rules are devised; Combined with the use requests of vehicle, the synthetically shift rules are also devised. In order to improve the transmission efficiency of power train, the lock rules are constituted. (3) According to automobile dynamic equation, the simulation model of AT vehicle in dynamic operation condition is built; and the dynamic performance and cruise operation simulation are carried through. The rationality of simulation results is validated providing the theoretic gist for test. (4) The key components are analyzed theoretically and tested based on dSPACE, and development of controller for each power train component are accomplished for the base of hydraulic automatic transmission system experiment. (5) Based on the theoretical research and key components test, the parameters matching and control experiment of power train are carried through using real time simulative controller dSPACE. The control model of hydraulic automatic transmission test rig are developed based on MATLAB/Simulink, and the dynamic performance test of initial starting shift and cruise control test are carried through for the theatrical and experimental base of vehicle equipped with hydraulic mechanical automatic transmission.
