The electronic stability program is a new type of vehicle active safety system, developed after antilock braking system and traction control system. It can control vehicle behavior in accordance with the driver's intention, road conditions and vehicle driving state to prevent critical situations and improve handling and stability of vehicle and driving safety more effectively and more remarkably. The ESP system is complicated system. The control method of the ESP system is the international research focus in the vehicle field. The researches focused on control method of the ESP system in the paper. Three kinds of control methods were proposed based on fuzzy control technology, and the simulation researches were carried out. The important influence of nonlinear characteristics of tire on cornering characteristics and driving stability of vehicle was considered at first. The nonlinear tire model (Magic Formula) was adopted, and the four wheels vehicle model with two degrees of freedom and vehicle reference model were set up on this basis. The basic principles of vehicle stability control were researched theoretically. Including the influence of slip characteristics of tire on vehicle stability, and the influence of road surface state, steer angle and vehicle on vehicle stability. The simulation experimental researches of vehicle handling and stability were carried out with step and sine input of Steer wheel angle under limit handling situations with ADMAS/CAR. Based on fuzzy control principle. The fuzzy controller of feedback control of yaw rate and the fuzzy controller of feedback control of side slip angle were designed. The control methods of the feedback control of yaw rate, the feedback control of side slip angle, the feedback control of uniting yaw rate and side slip angle were proposed, and simulation researches were carried out with the three kinds of control methods. The researches indicated the lateral stability of vehicle can be enhanced by controlling yaw rate and side slip angle with the three kinds of control methods.
