A Probe To The Ancient City Of Yuci Its Status, Protection And Utilization

The ancient city of Yuci, as a dazzling pearl situated in the land of shanxi, has mostly retained its road structure and entire distribution in Ming and Qing dynasty. The old temples, streets, shops and residences make it a typical ancient architecture group with complete construction and spectacular appearance ,and thus give it a comprehensive value in both history and culture. However , its present protection and renewal are facing deficiency of different levels. Based on the study of its status , this paper is intended to advance specific solutions from the aspects of professional architecture history and city planning . Through comparing and inducting architecture theories and designing methods with the concern of history , sociology , biology and etc , the author studies the issue with the "investigating , searching , analyzing and solving" principle and suggests a series solutions to utilize its potential and strive for development.The paper consists of 7 parts.The introduction addresses the urgency and necessity of protection and renewal. The author elaborates the history of the city's protection and the development of relative theories to conclude a present meaning and approaching methods.Chapter 2 focuses on the history of ancient yuci city and its region to point out its tourism status as an economic growth point and leading part of third estate. The author concludes its superior location and tourism situation.Chapter 3 analyzes the present condition of protection and renewal. While praising its devotion as relic architecture, the author discusses the necessity of applying "original and real" principle in protection. It is indicated that the protection and renewal planning aiming at specific problems are important and pressing. Also worth of concerning are questions of utilization and unused waste. The author then addresses residence status as its main function and suggests feasible utilization of developing modern residence after proper repair and renewal.In chapter 4, the author discusses present problems and harming factors to conclude major difficulties in protection. Meanwhile the ancient city's space charm and relic value is analyzed as its resource potential and advantages.Specific protection content and methods are addressed inchapter 5, The second term project covers the protection of buildings , courtyards, streets net, history and culture relics.Through analyzing and comparing the protection and renewal of xintiandi in shanghai and juer bystreet in Beijing ,the author concludes some employable experiences and suggests a planning and prospect for ancient yuci city. While combing renewal and systemic planning together ,the development of ancient yuci city should be considered as dynamic process. Its utilization and sustainable development should be obtained by measures as perfection of vegetation and adjustment of streets net.The last part precisely concludes the author's understanding from study of this issue.
