The research achievements of engineering geological characteristics of soft soil are relatively rich according to existed soft code and research documents at home and abroad. As to the sedimentary facies of soft soil, it is divided to mountain depression facies, lake and valley facies and sea region facies, but the engineering geological characteristics in different areas varies greatly and meawhile the geological design parameters and engineering settlement measures differ greatly, if the soft soil code and research results are applied to the design indifferently, the settlement effect under construction is not good and geological disaster will happen. Our design institute share more experience and inspiration in this field.This paper based on the engineering geological prospecting for projected Fuzhou-xiamen high speed railway systematically introduces the technical methods of soft soil research along the route, analyses the original types and the distribution patterns of soft soil and contrasts physical and mechanical index obtained from the static penetration tests, cross-shear plate tests, in-site load plate tests and indoor geotechnic tests. The paper also involves physical and mechanical design parameters table resulting from mathematical statistics method.The paper studies the relative relationship among the physical and mechanical index ,load-testing data and static penetration tests data.
