Facing The Aging Of Society Universal Design Research And Development On Information Appliances

Composed of five chapters, the thesis is about Universal Design (abbreviated as UD) in the systematic argumentation. The concept of UD, narrowly defined, rises from architecture design, a free-barrier design. Universal design is designed for all possible users, and the products and environmental facilities designed can be used for the user maximally without any modification and special design.With the development of society, universal design has been extending to all related fields such as architecture, interior, products, figure and other design subjects. In social industry science and technology, people realize that UD is no more a concept of design, nor an ideal. After the separation of design, production and consumption, universal design gets unprecedented support, and no longer remains at its narrow stage, but rather continues to develop in a new way, pursuing the humanization of the products. In the process of the social civilization, universal design is now growing more and more mature.The demands of the mankind no longer remain in mere physical satisfaction, but rather psychological, cognitive and social recognition. The realization of self value is the motive power of universal design. The rapid development of social productivity and advancement of science and technology have become the economic motive force of designing. And the same time social democracy progress becomes the greatest political motive force. The concept that "designing for life and human need" is under discussion repeatedly in the field of design all the time. Under numerous motive forces, universal design keeps breaking through and become richer in meaning: production and consumption win-win, humanization, individualized pursuit, and sustainable development.China is soon faced up with the aging problem, with a lot of related problems emerging in succession. However, we fail to pay full attention to this reality. Through the exposition of UD and the examples of project structure , material , function and the utilization on information appliances, the thesis hope to show that UD it is not a baseless fantasy. With the aging of our society, universal design development can effectively settle the problems on product design, communal facilities , architecture, interface ,etc. The three cases about universal design fully proved that it is very desirable that universal design increases products quality and produces value at the same time.In the conclusion part of the thesis, the break-through point lays in expanding the definition of universal design—It does not refers to the "universalization" ofproducts, but " sharing " of all. In the information age, the universal design have the temporal spirit, and can resolve the aging problems. The conclusion is that universal design is not unconvincing and unreliable ideal but feasible. Instead of a design obliterating the individual character, it is the embodiment and extending of the self-value. Facing the social aging, universal design is a good way to solve the related problems.
