With rapid progress has been got in economic construction, there is higher and higher demand for energy supply. Further more energy should be used more effective and sufficient to gear to nation's lasting developing strategy. VAR and harmonic has became serious pollution in circuit, it results in abnormal working of various equipments in electric system.VAR compensation has been proved an effective measure to reduce electric circuit loss and to increase working-system stable level. In this paper, it analyzes source and harmness of VAR, then looks back to the development of VAR compensation, then compares different modern VAR compensation technology.It elaborates Instantaneous Reactive Power Theory and DSP technology, expounds digital SVC design. The core content focuses on theory of TCR+TSC based SVC and DSP+MCU based classed digital control system. It clarifies tactics on TSC controlling, choosing of sampling frequency, etc. The design of main and auxiliary digital control circuit is discussed in detail, too. In the end, it gives weakness in this SVC system and inquires into improvement according to practical apply property.
