Under the dual pressure of excessive consumption of traditionalenergy sources and the increasing deterioration of ecological environment,the fast development and full use of new and clean energy can ease themankind’s growing demand for energy to some extent. Wind power withits environmental friendly characteristic and inexhaustible advantagesplays a prominent role in the promotion of ecological civilization andoptimization of energy consumption. According to the Global WindEnergy Council, China’s total wind power installed capacity in2012exceeded75000MW, which has already surpassed the United States forthree consecutive years and maintained the world’s first. In thebackground of―the12th Five-Year Plan‖, the relevant ministries issued aseries policy and planning related to the development of wind powerindustry, which clearly pointed that within the next five years or even a longer period of time, we should focus on expanding its proportion inenergy structure and making wind power energy become an importantsource of future electricity demand. In recent years, China’s large-scalewind power plant has connected to the grid, and because the windresources are located in remote areas, wind farms connected to the mainelectricity grid is so weak that it leads to a series of power qualityproblems. The generation of harmonic is one of the common sources ofthese problems, and therefore further researches in harmonic issues are ofgreat practical significance in maintaining stable operation and alsoensuring personal safety and equipment performance.In response to this situation, the harmonic problems of wind powergrid are the main study object in the paper. Firstly, we analyze thedomestic and overseas research status of wind power and harmonicproblems, and describe the causes, hazards and other concepts ofharmonic. And we have a comprehensive analysis and meticulousresearch on the harmonic source localization, harmonic detectionmethods and comprehensive control. The law based on generalinstantaneous reactive power theory has become today’s mainstreamharmonic detection algorithm. The paper put on theoretical analysis andsimulation study on the various performances, based on the modeling andsimulation under Matlab/simulink environment. We respectively usediscrete first-order filter, the average current law and the Kalman filter method in the filter link. And the characteristics and filtering effects arecompared through the simulation. In the final link of harmonic control,passive filter, active filter and joint filter is respectively adopted forharmonic suppression. And the reasonability and effectiveness of thedesign is further validated through simulation method.
