Spiral bevel and hypoid gears have been widely used in the transmission system of automobile as one of the key parts because of their strong load capability, mild working noise and compact structure, etc. Their working performance greatly affects the running quality of automobile. With the increasing requirement of people to the more comfortable automobiles, it is important to reduce the vibration and noise of the bevel gear to improve their transmission quality. Base on the reason mentioned above, the study and development of an intelligent system, which can measure and check the transmission quality of bevel gears, have important academic and practical application signification. In this paper, an intelligent system called Dynamic and Compositive Measurement and Analysis System of Bevel Gear Mesh Quality, which can measure the vibration of bevel gear mesh, give a judge of mesh quality condition and accomplish the setting distance trace course to acquire optimal setting distance parameter of gear and opinion, is proposed. The system can automatically complete the whole test course, including clamping of bevel gear workpiece, adjusting setting distance parameter and matching angel of opinion to gear, accurate control of the driver speed and load torque, acquiring setting distance trace curve, measurement and analysis of the vibration of bevel gear mesh to evaluate transmission quality, etc. It is composed of the high-accuracy AC servo position control system to adjust the setting distance of gear and opinion, working condition parameter digital PID control unit, measurement and analysis module adopting digital filter technology to acquire the vibration signal of bevel gear mesh and analyzing the signal in order to acquire the eigenvalue to evaluate mesh quality. Compared with traditional bevel gear roll tester, the system overcomes the shortcoming of assessing bevel gear mesh quantity factitiously and can give the optimal setting distance parameter of gear and opinion, which is useful to improve the bevel gear mesh quantity. The measurement and control software of system is programmed by LabVIEW, which has the typical virtual instrument panel and is easy to operate base on PC. This software system has eight key modules, including the main control module, position and motion control module, working condition parameter control module, data acquisition module, data analysis and disposal module, database management module, system parameter management module and help document management module. With the modularized structure, this software can be easily applied to another software environment and maintained, upgraded and expanded conveniently. Finally, the intelligent measurement and analysis system proposed in this paper is used to make several experiment to prove its good working performance. The result shows that the system fulfills the function designed in advance and can be put into practical quality control application in bevel gear manufacture process.
