Fire disaster in expressway tunnel may result in serious damage to life and property. Early pre-warning for fire disaster and timely mobilization of fire-fighting and rescue work can reduce damage of the disaster. In recent 20 years, Fire disaster automatic detecting technology in China has been developed from the use of air red copper tube temperature-sense detecting to the present use of double wave-length flame detector, optical fiber temperature-sense detector and thermal alloy wire temperature-sense detector. The above-mentioned automatic fire disaster detecting technology shows different detection effects in various engineering applications. Present research in China emphasizes on detecting technology itself or its implementation in projects, but no systematic study in this aspect has been carried out. Therefore, related specifications are not available for engineering application and maintenance of tunnel fire disaster detecting system and choice of detecting technology is random to a certain extent. In this regard, this article makes a study of application of automatic fire disaster warning detection technology in expressway tunnel. The characteristics of highway tunnel fire disaster accidents are analyzed and the principles of such major fire disaster detection as dual-wavelength flame detector, optical fiber temperature sensor detector and thermal alloy wire temperature sensor detector are also introduces in this article, as well as comprehensive comparison among these detecting technologies. Experiences and lessons in application of overseas and domestic tunnels are described in this article and fire test examinations in tunnels are carried out so that a solution is put forward to meet the practical demands and some suggestions are given for maintenance and management of the system.
