Green land plays an essential role in improving the ecological environment in the city and improving resident's life quality. Studies on the patterns of green land system are mostly qualitative description because it is very difficult to draw accurate green land information from large areas. With the development of theories of landscape ecology as well as the expansion of geographical information system's application field, it becomes possible to study the landscape pattern of urban green land in large area.With the software ArcGIS and Arc View, based on the theories of landscape ecology, the landscape pattern of different green land and park's services were studied. the results show as follows:1. The green land is made up of small patches in Wuhan district where the greenery coverage percentage is 33.05%. The average area of green land patches is 0.17hm~2 and the coefficient of area variation is 9.96. The average area of attached green land patches is the smallest (0.12hm~2) whose area and number ranks the first among 5 types of green land, accounting for 68% and 97.38% respectively, which are the largest in every district but the average area of patches is the minimum. The area of nursery is the minimum which only occupies 4.25% and the average area of other green land patches is the largest (23.68hm2) in all green land types. Most part of public park, nursery, attached green land and other green land distribute in Hongshan district while most green buffer distributes in Qingshan district. The greenery coverage percentage is the largest in Zhuankou district and the smallest in Jianghan district.2. The shape index of green land patches is 1.548 on average, whose variation coefficient is 0.631. The shape index and variation coefficient of green buffer are the largest, while the shape index of attached green land is the smallest and its variation coefficient is also small. Among all districts, the shape index and variation coefficient of green land in Zhuankou district is the largest, among which the shape index of attached green land in this district ranks the first. The shape index of all green land, the public park and the attached green land is the smallest in Jiang'an district among the 8 districts.3. The separation index of all green land in Wuhan district is 0.0213, while the separation index and fragmentation index of other green land are the minimum. The fragmentation index of attached green land is the largest whose landscape connectivity index is the smallest, which is most fragmented in all districts and tends towards randomdistribution. The green land patches are the most widely distributed, especially public park in Qiaokou district. The landscape diversity of green land is the largest in Hongshan district and the smallest as well as the landscape evenness and fragmentation index in Zhuankou district where the green land patches are densely distributed. The different green land types are well-proportioned in Jiang'an district where the landscape evenness are the maxmum and the landscape dominance index minimum.4. The utilization frequency of residential area park is the highest (38.57%). The comprehensive construction, greenery quantity, air quality and cultural function play an important role to improve park's services. The tree species in the green land are lack of abundance and characteristic, which is unfavorable to ecological and aesthstic functions of green land.
