Asphalt pavements have been widely used along with the fast development of highway, which put forward higher quality requirement for it. With the highway acquire quantity development, it also exists some hidden trouble in quality. Lacking durability and early attaint is a ubiquity problem. To solve above mentioned problem, this paper mainly research on three parts: firstly, through review and summarize present gradation theory and calculate method, united these methods by fracture theory. Analysis the asphalt mixture gradation from the two parts: gradation constitute and trend towards, presents relevant asphalt mixture design and evaluate methods, firstly use stability conception as a criterion in asphalt mixture design. Research and evaluate the Superpave "restrict zone" systemically, presents own opinions Carry out comparison experiments on the design gradation and several anti-slide gradations common use in our nation. The results indicate that well-designed gradation has choiceness using capability. Secondly, comparison several asphalt design methods, analysis the differences of these methods in selecting the optimum asphalt content. Thirdly, aiming at the present problem that fewer researches are on the inter-relationship among the volumetric parameters and further application in the HMA mixture design, this paper discussed the conceptions of the universal volumetric chart and mixture design chart. The results indicate that the universal volumetric chart is a useful method in HMA mixture's design and quality control. This paper discusses as followed aspects systemically: the gradation optimization mixture design methods Index evaluate system. This will do helpful to the development of the asphalt pavement in our nation.
