Asphalt pavements have been widely used along with the fast development of highway, which put forward higher quality requirement for it. With the highway acquire quantity development, it also exists some hidden trouble in quality. Lacking durability and early attaint is a ubiquity problem. To solve above mentioned problem, this paper mainly research on four parts: firstly, through review and summarize present gradation theory and calculate methods, united these methods by fracture theory, analyzed the asphalt mixture gradation trend. On this base, this paper get the selective methods of mineral gradation based on fractal dimension under different environment. Secondly, through the analysis of aggregate gradation theory and gradation original selection and gradation evaluation and adjustment and design, this paper put forward gradation optimization method and flow chart, and evaluation methods of gradation stability based on SGC. Thirdly, carried out comparison experiments on the design gradation and several gradations common use in our nation. The results indicate that well-designed gradation has choiceness using capability. Finally, discussed variability of asphalt mixture gradation and it's affecting factors. Aiming at the present problem that fewer researches are on the inter-relationship among the volumetric parameters and further application in the HMA mixture design, this paper discussed the conceptions of the universal volumetric chart. The results indicate that the universal volumetric chart is a useful method in HMA mixture's design and quality control. This paper discusses as followed aspects systemically: the gradation optimization, mixture design methods, construction variability . This will be helpful to the development of the asphalt pavement in our nation.
