Steel plate is bonded to the reinforced concrete beam with adhesive, which can make it work as a whole. However, in practice, the adhesive may be deteriorated under ultraviolet radiation, humidity or high temperature. This paper present an alternative method, that is, using the anchor bolt instead of adhesive to link steel plate with the concrete. The key problem is how to decide the proper number of anchor bolts and where to place them. In this paper, three different groups of concrete beams are strengthened by steel plate with anchor bolts which are located in different position. They are tested under stable-load.This paper experiment on the reinforced concrete beams,which are strengthened by bolting or adhesive steel plate to the beams. These beams by bolting steel plate are separated into three groups. All these experimental study focus on the flexural behavior and impact of different strengthened ways on the beams.The result indicates that three groups of concrete beams strengthened by anchor-bolted steel plate can be loaded as far as they were destroyed; compared with unstrengthened beams ,these beams strengthened by steel plate using adhesive or anchor all can achieve a seventy percent higher loading capacity and thirty percent higher stiffness. On the condition that with the same steel plate ,concrete beams strengthened by bolting steel plate can work as good as those beams strengthened by using adhesive.Except that this paper also make research on the beams by using ABAQUS software . To validate the correctness of the simulation, the simulating results are contrasted with experimental results,and it indicates that the method is correct. With more analysis on these FEM models,this paper make it clear that in which way these beams strengthened by bolting steel plate can be more reasonable.Based on the results of experiment and simulation, the corresponding theoretical calculating formula of the shearing strength of anchors is proposed and the calculation matchs the experiment quite well. And the calculating method can be reliable in engineering application.
