RTU has popular applications in electric power dispatching automation systems, but it seldom used in hydropower station Supervisory Computer Control Systems (SCCSs). In order to applying the RTU into hydropower station SCCS, we analyzed some requirements and characteristics of hydropower station SCCSs, then we brought forward a technological improvement and update scheme for the traditional RTU equipment, and carried the scheme into actions. At last, we applied the RTU equipments into a series of hydropower station SCCSs. Firstly, we reviewed the current situation and development trends of hydropower station in our country, especially the situation and development trends of hydropower station SCCSs. By introducing the practice and characteristics of hydropower station SCCSs in some western country, we pointed out the utility foreground of a unattended operation supervisory computer control technology, as an embodiment of highly automated system, for hydropower station, especially for some middle or small scale hydropower stations. Secondly, in order to the readers realizing the characteristics that the SRTU-II equipment could be used in unattended operation integrated automatic system for hydropower station, this paper putted emphasis on introducing the constitute,function and operational principle of the model SRTU-II equipment in detail. At last, we enunciated the general demand in integrated automatic system for hydropower station, propounded a applied scheme of integrated automatic system in distributed hierarchic arrangement for hydropower station, analyzed the characteristics of some key control process in the generator LCU unit, and revealed the important functional effects of the SRTU-II equipment in the system.
