As the principal unit of Customer Power, DSTATCOM is a novel dynamic compensator, named as distribution static synchronous compensator. DSTATCOM has the advantages to quickly compensate the reactive power, to restrain flash of voltage and improve distribution quality of voltage. To apply special control mode, the harmonic wave can be eliminated and the phase-unbalance of the system can be restrained. Therefore, DSTATCOM has a good application in the industry.Firstly, the development and principle of DSTATCOM are summarized. By theoretical analysis, the mathematic model for DSTATCOM is deduced. It put forward a detection method of the reactive current based on three phase instantaneous power theory. The DSTATCOM is controlled by tracking PWM technology. The simulations of the compensation effects are studied by Electromagnetic Transient Program for DC/Power System Computer Aided Design(PSCAD/EMTDC) at different conditions. The results suggest that DSTATCOM has good compensation effects with different loads. The dynamic performance infections with the parameters varying are also studied by simulation.A detailed analysis and simulation for the dynamic performances of DSTATCOM under different abnormal conditions and the influences of system faults to the device are researched in this paper . The protection methods are conduced by the analysis and simulation results. Controlled protection and driving pulses blocking operation are the most common actions of DSTATCOM protection system and the implementations of these methods are discussed in the paper. Finally, the total frame and the program of the control and protection system of DSTATCOM are done by DSP.
