Ultimate equilibrium is the traditional method to evaluate the block stability. Toestimate the block stability for underground PowerStation of the Three Gorges Projectthrough the finite element analysis, one kind of method is used in this thesis, which appliesthe ultimate equilibrium to every element on the slip planes to get the block stabilitycoefficient. In this thesis, several examples are designed to prove the adaptable of the methodmentioned above, which is the coupling of the Ultimate equilibrium and the finite elementanalysis. Ultimate equilibrium and the mentioned method are both applied to solve theexamples, and two different results are showed. To the examples of single slip plane, the tworesults are similar. To the examples of double slip surfaces, the two kinds of results havesome difference. But the difference is within the 15% error range. Considering someunreasonable facts in the example design, the coupling method has some adaptable toestimate the block stability coefficient.Use the coupling method to analyze the block stability for underground PowerStation ofthe Three Gorges Project, the result is almost the same with the traditional result. At the endof the thesis, some suggestions are proposed.
