Reactive optimal control in urban power system network is an efficient method fornetwork loss reduction and voltage improvement in the power system operation. It isalso an important component of Distribution Automation System (DAS). The thesismainly discusses reactive optimal control of urban power system network.Firstly, it is analyzed that the basic theory of reactive optimal control and itsinfluence on power system network loss and voltage. Then it points the remarkableimpact of reactive optimal control to reduce network loss.Secondly, reactive optimal control is based on power flow calculation. In this paperaccording to the characters of reactive optimal control, a new theory is applied toimprove traditional Newton method. The algorithm has advantages of fast computationspeed, a few iterating times, high accuracy convergence and easy programming. It is aneffect method applied to reactive optimal control. The model of the reactive optimalcontrol to urban distribution network is set forth in this thesis. Its object function is madeto reducing network loss of urban power system network.Lastly, it is applied the improved genetic algorithm (IGA) to solve the problem ofreactive optimal control. It is proved by examples that the algorithm has moreadvantages, such as high calculate speed and high accuracy convergence, than traditionalgenetic algorithm (GA).
