Square concrete filled steel tube (SCFT) frame has been widely used in civil multistoried buildings. To study the seismic performance of strengthened SCFT frame, which has been destroyed in the earthquake, a piece of destroyed SCFT frame has been reinforced firstly and its internal force and displacement under vertical and horizontal loads have been calculated. Then following the rules in (JGJ 101-96), the quasi-static test has been carried out. After analysising the test results including hysteretic behavior, ductility, the abilities of seismic energy dissipation, stiff and strength degeneration, the mechanical property of connections and the failure mechanism of the SCFT frame, etc, the author points out the SCFT frame has high bearing capacity, high ductility, good performance of deformation and seismic behavior. At last, based on the test results, the proposal of how to strengthen the SCFT frame has been presented.
