Along with the development of modern technology, power customers have more and more severely requests of power quality. Power quality compensating devices based on Custom Power technology provide a novel method to solve the power quality problems. Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is considered as the most effective device to compensate the voltage sag. DVR is one of the hottest topic in this field, because it could compensate both steady state and dynamic voltage quality problems, such as voltage sag, voltage swell, the imbalance of three-phase voltage and harmonic.In the thesis the principle of DVR is analyzed, and different compensation schemes and topology of it is studied. The detection of voltage quality problem is the fatal factor to the effectiveness of DVR. By comparing with other methods and stimulating several approach based on instantaneous reactive power theory, an improved d-q method is selected. Different control methods such as feed-forward, feedback and the hybrid are studied by simulating with MATLAB. And a good control strategies is adopted which is the hybrid integrated with PD adjustment.The components of DVR are described, and the main circuit and its controller are designed. In addition the system software is developed on the DSP CCS development environment. In the end, the theory is validated by the result of experiment on the prototype.
