This paper studies the mechanical capability of the assembly of the main reducer based on the investigation of national and international assembly line of the main reducer.Through analyzing the structure of the main reducer, some mechanical factors, which affect the quality of the assembling process of the rear axle, are found out. The traditional technique in assembling rear axle is how to determine the thickness of the gasket. Based on pre-tighten moment in the process of assembly, the analytical model of the main reduce is established through theoretical analysis of the connection between screwed moment and axle force.By using finite element analysis, the suitable thickness of the gasket is obtained. We can learn the influence of mechanical capability of main reducers and find the variable rule of the pre-tightening force with adjusting the thickness of gaskets. The results of the paper is beneficial to improve the assembling quality of main reducer and to control pre-tighten purpose of the axle.In the second part, we obtain stress field and displacement field of the main reducer after assembly by finite element method. As a result, strength evaluation of the main reducer is performed. Based on these results, some theoretic suggestions for the design and manufacture of the main reducer are provided.According to the sleeve gasket's function and investigation of the applied status of foreign countries about elastic sleeve gasket, we suggest that the shape of stiff sleeve gaskets, which are used currently in China, should be changed. The present paper proposed a new type of sleeve gasket with more flexibility instead of original stiff one in order to improve the mechanical capability of the main reducer.
