When faults occur in the transmission line, locating the fault accurately can resume power supply timely and reduce the loss caused by the electric power cut. And it also has significant value for the reliability of power system. The actual fault location algorithms based on the fault analysis include one-terminal fault location algorithms and two-terminal algorithms. With the development of computer and communication technology and the wide application of relay protection and the fault information system in the electric power system, it is possible to locate high-voltage transmission line faults by using two-terminal algorithms. Based on the comprehensive analysis of different algorithms and the study of the causation of the asynchronous phase angle, δ, this paper applied the theory about errors and data processing and then presented a new algorithm which used the line distributing parameter model. The algorithm can analyze the errors and process the multi-calculate data, thereby the fault location result can approach the true location step by step. EMTP-ATP program indicated that this algorithm could improve the fault location accuracy. Furthermore, the fault resistance, fault styles and δ have little influence on the algorithm and the algorithm has practical value on engineering.
