Where safety and economy of turbines were concerned, abrasions, cavitation damages and their protections of turbines have been important problems that operate in much more sand-mud rivers for hydropower projects. Based on the operation of the Sanmenxia Power Station for several decadal years and studies of the prototype tests, some conclusions could be drawn followings in the present paper:(1) For abrasions, cavitation damages of the components of the turbines, the most severe one was blades of runners, and then middle rings and guiding blades.(2) The protecting materials and technologies about abrasions, cavitation damages of turbines were developed by means of the some measures of prototype tests for the turbines of the Sanmenxia Power Station.(3) The optimizing projects about muddy water generating electricity were given and have better effects of safety and economy of operation according to the experiences and the present tests of muddy water generating electricity for the genetaring units. The systems of state examinations and repairs of the Station have been established in Sanmenxia Station since 2002 and the facts have showed that these systems played an important role in operation of the turbines.
