According to the state development plan of water conservancy, a set of high earth-rockfill dams will be constructed in southwest of our country, some of which lie in strong earthquake area and with deep overburden layers. For these dams, the question that whether or not they can be able to withstand the influence of strong earthquake has became an emergent problem needing to solve presently. Based on detailed study on mechanism of earthquick disaster and the progress in methods of dynamic analysis, combining Huangjinping Asphaltic Concrete Core-wall Rockfill Dam which will be constructed in DADU river, the paper uses 3D dynamic FEM to analysize the states of dynamic reaction and stability. The main contents are as follows:1. Analysize the characteristics of earthquake disaster about earth rockfill dams and introduce recent construction state of high rockfill dams in strong earthquake area, the development of dynamic analysis methods is also stated synthetically.2. Both basic properties and the research on static and dynamic constitutive model about asphalt concrete are analyzed.3. Combining Huangjinping Asphalt Concrete Core-wall Rockfill dam which will be constructed on deep overburden layers, 3D dynamic FEM is carried out to analysis the dynamic action of rockfill, cut-off wall, and asphalt concrete core-wall. Permanent deformation of dam is studied as well.4. Compare the results get from traditional pseudo-static method and FEM method, and judge the stability of dam slop.
