The land belongs to the non-renewable resource, which conflicts more and more s severely with the large area of reservoir. Water resource is in short especially in inshore plain region. So water resource is extremely valuable. It's necessary to study the technology of improving the storage for the plain reservoirs because of their large area and lack water storage.There are mainly two schemes such as purely increasing dam area or height. In this essay, research of purely increasing dam height is carried on regards of project design according to Er-wang Village Reservoir. The extreme height of the dam under the current condition of the groundsill is confirmed with calculating and analyzing with different methods. And the reinforcement technologies are chosen based on the structure stability analysis and seepage stability analysis with FEM. Furthermore, the economic and social benefits analyses of different schemes explains the superiority of purely increasing dam height.After improving the dam height as well as the flat roof for more weight, with complete close obturated anti-seepage curtain, the dam keeps safe during the operating courses. Synthesizing benefits analyses, we can draw a conclusion that improving the storage of the reservoir purely by increasing dam height can meets the demand of stabilization and can bring prodigious social and economic benefit.
