The objective of this thesis, on the one hand, is to seek an automotive hypoid gear design method to reduce the gear noise efficiently and meet noise control regulation that becomes more and more stringent in automotive industry, on the other hand, to computerize the traditional hypoid gear design to relieve the engineer from the arduous repetitive labor work, shorten the design cycle, and assure the engineer to focus on the optimization of the product design. When the overlap coefficient of the hypoid gears reaches a suitable value, the gear stability and noise will be remarkably improved. Accordingly, based on traditional design method and combined with optimization and computerization theories, an optimization mathematical model of hypoid gear design parameters is developed.
