| Traditional cooling technologies of underwater motor mainly includewater-cooling and oil-cooling. But in some special fields, higher and higher powerdensity is required and traditional cooling technologies can't be seasoned with thedevelopment of underwater motor. A fire-new cooling technology of underwatermotor is required on edge in order to solve this problem. Evaporation-cooling is a kind of new cooling technique with high efficiency andsafety, which has been applied to the horizontal motor successfully. In this paper,evaporation-cooling technology was applied to underwater motor for the first time. Inorder to obtain the cooling effect of evaporation-cooling, a stator model had beendesigned. This model could simulate the working environment and realize three typesof cooling technologies: water-cooling, oil-cooling and evaporation-cooling. The experimental system had been set up. A lot of experiments aboutwater-cooling and oil-cooling had been done by this experimental system. The resultsillustrated that the cooling effect of water-cooling and oil-cooling was not very good.The cooling capability of water-cooling and oil-cooling was small and the currentdensity of the stator winding was low.Experimental study about evaporation-cooling was most important to this paper.By varying the flux of water in the water jacket, the current density of the statorwinding and the height of the coolant, we could obtain the maximum current densityof the stator winding, the maximum cooling capability and so on. The heat transferprogress in the stator cavity was very complicated, the boiling style of the coolant inthe stator cavity was subcooled boiling all the time, which was different fromtraditional evaporation-cooling. We obtained the appropriate height of coolant byvarying the height of coolant because the height of coolant was the key point toevaporation-cooling. By varying the flux of water in the water jacket, we could seethat the cooling effect was correlated to the flux of water in the water jacket.At the end of this paper, we compared the three types of cooling technologiesthoroughly. The cooling effect of evaporation-cooling was much better thanwater-cooling and oil-cooling and could achieve higher power density much easily.Basing on the mature technique of water-cooling and oil-cooling in the field ofunderwater motor, we believe that evaporation-cooling can be used in the field ofunderwater motor successfully. |
