Shape analysis is paramount to the design of cable-reinforced membrane structures. On the basis of form finding and structural characteristics analysis of cable-reinforced membrane structures, an efficient shape design technique is presented and the shape analysis rules are suggested.First of all, three fundamental analysis methods—force density method, dynamic relaxation method and nonlinear finite element method are analyzed on the ground of basic principle. The advantages and disadvantages of the three methods are illustrated.Based on the nonlinear finite element method, the two-time method for form finding considering gravity is proposed and the related computing program is designed. The numerical examples demonstrate that the result of form finding is more authentic as the membrane and cable have larger curvature using the two-time method. The two-time method shows better accuracy and efficiency in computation. Moreover, the problem of small Young's modulus and and real Young's modulus is analyzed and the two-time small Young's modulus method is proposed to receive better convergence in computation.Form-finding process of pyramid shape membrane structure with different prestress ratios are carried out and. The function method is suggested for the determination of prestress of cabele-reinforced membrane structures.When shape analysis is finished, the mechanical characteristics of hyperboloid shape membrane structure are studied and the influence of different parameter to the character of the structure discussed.
