The cable dome structure, based on the tensigrity principle, is favored by the structural engineers for its high structural efficiency. Scholars both at home and abroad all make active efforts to conduct research on this field. In the cable structures, continuous cable is often used to stretch for the convenience of the construction, but it is difficult to calculate the continuous cable. Thongh many relevant methods have been put forward, but all have limitations.The constrained cable mechenics used to deal with the structral lifting problem uses analytic geometry methods, but the program lacks universality. Meanwhile, it is hard to consider the compression and bending of the slender structural element. It is important how to caculate the continuous cable.On the base of the introduction of spatial structure, the tensigrity structral concept is introduced. The cable dome and the state of the art are introduced.Then the type of the cable dome structure and the prestress design methods of the cable dome are introduced. The simplified truss theory is used to design the prestess of a Gegier-type and Levy-type cable dome.The finite element method used in the structural analysis is established for the structural calculation. Based on 3-node and 4-node continuous cable finite element equation of Reference [27], this article deduces continuous cable finite element equation of arbitrary nodes, and this supports the engineering calculation; that this theory can settle the dynamic problem is also proved.The structural lifting problem is analyzed using the continuous cable finite element method. The results indicate that the continuous cable finite element theory is brevity & effective to settle the structural lifting problem and can conduct analysis on the whole process of structural lifting, tackling the theoretical problem of structural lifting. And at the same time the continuous cable finite element equation is verified.The static analysis of the cable dome under the uniform load and disuniform load, the temperature effect and the stability of the structure are carried out. The structure is unfavorable under the disuniform load; the temperature effect is significant; the structure has no globly stable problem.The effect of the load, prestress and the type of the cable on the frequencies and modes of the cable dome are analyzed.
