In recent years, shield tunnel is developing towards large diameter, which brings more risks during departure and reception of shield. The research on construction technique and mechanism of reinforced soil for large scale shield of this stage is the new topic and challenge we have to face.This paper mainly focuses on the problem of the balance and stabilization of reinforced soil for large scale shield in this stage, and the Hu-Chong-Su tunnel in construction is the background project. The research work mainly concludes four parts which were summarized as following:(1) By studying and comparing, the forms of temporary wall and the methods to reinforce soil often used in Shanghai are presented.(2) Kinds of models are used to analysis the mechanism of reinforced soil. In this title, the way how to calculate the dimension of reinforced soil is presented.(3) With the practical engineering, we use 3D FEM software to make numerical simulation and compare with analytic solution, in order to verify the reliability of the analytic solution used in practice.(4) In addition, by studying the critical construction steps of this stage, the author summarizes all kinds of risks we may meet during construction and provides corresponding strategies. The findings can be a reference for designers and constructors.
