In our country, from the South to the North, the soft foundation is distributed inalmost every port. Generally the soft foundation cannot be treated as naturalgroundwork without being strengthened. Cement Deep Mixing Method, which iscalled CDM method, is a new method for strengthening soft foundation in deep water. It has many advantages and is used widely in practice. In this paper, the finite element analysis of CDM method for soft foundation of asemi-circle caisson breakwater is discussed by using the finite element analysissoftware-ANSYS. First the load that is applied on the foundation and the groundbearing capacity to verify the necessity of strengthening are calculated. Then differentelement models are established to calculate and analyse the response of thestrengthened foundation using CDM method. The result is included displacement, stress, strain, contact result and so on. At the meantime, the results of different modelare also compared.A new method using the result of internal force for calculating the groundbearing capacity is also discussed. The coefficient of ground bearing capacity that isdeduced from the new method is compared with the one that is deduced from thetraditional method. In order to be closer to the practice, transient analysis of ANSYS is also used tocalculate the response of the strengthened foundation, then the dynamic results andthe static results are compared which has some values for actual engineering.
