The suction foundation is belong to shallow foundation .The continuous ice crushingon the columns and thereby the dynamic ice structure interaction may usually happenduring the ice season resulting in sustained violent vibrations of the structure .Thepotential of the soils liquefaction due to the vibrations of the structure should beconsidered. In this paper ,a new procedure similar of evaluate the liquefaction potential inearthquakes was used to evaluate the liquefaction potential in ice-induced vibrations. Thesteps are: First, a dynamical analysis was finished using the appropriative ice-inducedvibration program and the finite element program to get the maximum cyclic shearstresses in soil around the bucket. And they were then compared with those limitliquefaction strengths of soils, which were calculated using appropriate semi empiricalformulas. The formulas were set up on the basis of a series of triaxial experiments andfield measurements for soils with different characters. At last the potential soilliquefaction was assessed. This procedure can be applied to both granular soils and soilswith plastic fines. In this paper, the finite element program ANSYS was combined with the ice-inducedvibration program to calculate the maximum cyclic shear stresses when the ice-inducedvibrations happened. It is also fit for other platforms with similar structures. Finally , a suction foundation platform case in Bohai was analyzed onabove-mentioned procedure, proving its feasible. Some conclusions were drawn about theice-induced vibration and the liquefaction potential of soils.
