The technologies used to control and test the engine are all standing by with thedevelopment of the engine, and advances of these technologies promise the engine'sworking condition highly active, credibility and optimization. With the developmentof engine and technology, electronic control and laser diagnostic are applied to theengine's control and test, which are the two topics of this paper. Demanded by the research of the new combustion brought forward by project team,a electronic control system were developed which are composed of PC and ECU.Function of the ECU is to measure the parameters of the engine and control theengine's working. PC is used to receive and screen the parameters from the ECU,acquire cylinder pressure diagram and supply an interface for adjustment of engineparameters. As indicated in the bench test, the electronic control system has meet theresearch requirements and worked steadily. Also in bench experiments, the newcombustion -Homogeneous Charge Excited Ignition has been succeeded through theway of heating inlet air.In the engine's test, especially the combustion test, laser diagnostics are the mostpopular methods which has high precision and no disturb of the measured objects.Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) is a technique of measuring instantaneous 2D and3D velocity fields growing rapidly in recent years. In this paper,it presents twoapplications of PIV technique into the measurements of the diesel common railsystem spray and the air field in gasoline cylinder.During the measurements of the diesel common rail system spray, three pressure ofcommon rail were studied,60,80 and 100MPa. Each different pressure, spray imageswithin the 1.3-8.0ms after injection are recorded. Processed with the spray images, different pressures and different times' vector fields were acquired and analyzed. Inthe meantime, cone angle and penetration of the spray were compared withvisualization of the spray images. In a four valve optical gasoline, PIV technique were applied to measure swirling andtumble air flow as engine worked at two intake valves and one intake valves twoconditions. With the analyze of the swirling vector fields and tumble vectors, swirlingand tumble air flow in the cylinder in these two inlet conditions. Moreover, averagevelocities and tumble strengths were calculated.
