Human society comes into information epoch with the evolution of electronic technology. In recent years, the processing speed and capability of electronic instruments have been prodigiously improved. The digital image process technology has been constantly on the upgrade, and video information is widely applied in many fields. Traditionally people adopt lidar technology to measure the moving target's velocity, while this technique has not been fully developed. Especially, the measurement of the velocity of ball or other moving targets in the gymnastic field sometimes depends on the costly import equipment. The research of video real-time veracious velocity measurement based on DSP, by which way athletes' ability is able to be measurable described, will be the scientific reference for athletes' improvement on the disciplinal way and developing skills.The article tells the video velocity measurement system based on DSP, with which people calculates the ball's velocity by way of getting the ball's image information during the course of movement. The basic framework and application of DSP is introduced in the article, and the basic video signal process theory is also expatiated. The design of the velocity measurement system is dissertated at two aspects of hardware and software. The hardware of image processing system is composed by video decoder, DSP, CPLD, etc. As to software design, we adopt Hough transform theory to calculate the coordinate of the ball's center in order to work out the velocity, by the way of edge detecting of the sphere. The performance of the whole system is evaluated at the last, and optimization is also brought forward. The concrete chapters are as follows:Firstly we discuss the content, method and meaning of this research based on the analysis of the status quo of this research at home and abroad;Secondly we introduce DSP, describe the relevant knowledge on video signal and operation mechanism of IIC bus.Thirdly we design every function module of hardware system;Fourthly we design the software arithmetic and programme relevant program.The fifth part is the conclusion and prospect.There is no domestic gymnastic equipment which is independently deigned on velocity measurement with video. The research base on the DSP for velocity measurement with video is a valuable attempt in this field for theory and application. Once the technique comes into mature product, it will supply a domestic gap, and replace the costly import product. Therefore, it can bring huge economic benefit.
