Research Of Seat Belt Reminder System Of Passenger Car In China

Safety belt is the most effective passive safety equipment that offers the most important protection for motorists. But the safety belt use rate can't make us so optimistic in our country. After nearly 2 months' survey in 2005, it came out that the safety belt use rate of the driver just reach 68% for the passenger car in our country. The basic function of Safety Belt Reminder (SBR) system was to reminder the 32% passenger to fasten the safety belt when it was not used. The purpose of the SBR system was to improve the safety belt use rate and the traffic safety actuality of our country, and the purpose of this project was to promote safety belt use rate in our country by conducting research to develop an effective in-vehicle safety belt reminder system.The first part of this paper include the introduction of the development of SBR system and the statutes related, the analysis of the abecedarian effect of the SBR system on improving the traffic safety status of our country, and the explanation of the basic principles of the safety belt and the SBR system.In the second part of the paper, much work were done on the analysis in improving the traffic Safety statutes by the SBR system in our country. Project activities included a nationwide survey on the driver's safety belt use rate of the passenger car, the test-driving of COROLLA of TOYOYA, which have equipped with the SBR system and the questionnaire form the drivers in the test. Base on the data, we get the effectiveness of the SBR system to the people of different classification, such as age, income and education etc. The results indicated that the most effective and acceptable safety-belt reminder system concept was one that was adaptive, that is, one that changes its signal type and presentation modality depending on belt use behavior over some metric (time, distance, or speed). Ultimately, base on the fatal data of passenger car driver in the traffic accident of our country and the relationship of the safety belt use rate between the dead driver and the rate in our research, we got the number of life that can be saved in the traffic accident when the SBR system was used, and then the economic losing related was calculated.
