At present, the way to judge the failure of rock masses in geoengineering is stillbased on the value analytical method which is mainly characterized by a safety factor.All kinds of geological processes not only make rock masses discontinuousness,heterogeneity and anisotropy, which result in the variability of rock masses'parameters and determine the indeterminacy of forms of rock failure and randomicityof engineer loads。When rock parameters are not accurate, the results cannot reflectthe actual situation of rock masses through certain analysis method。It is analyzed that rock masses' parameters present objective statistical laws of therandomicity. Reliability analysis of probability statistics provides an effective wayto process the randomicity. So it is possible to predict the probable range of rockmasses' strength and distortion through randomly gathering up macroscopicalfeatures.In the analysis of reliability of rock mass unit, strength criterion of rock mass isnecessary, hence, in this thesis, Hoek -Brown strength criterion aims togeotechnical in common use is widely studied. Three parameters which influence tocriterion mostly including uniaxial compress strength ,m(charactered by thedegree of rock masses' hard ) and s(charactered by the degree of rock masses'fragment). The thesis introduce the obtaining method of upwards parametersparticularly and it's influence to the strength of rock mass.The step to calculate the stability of rock mass by making use of reliability ofHoek-Brown Strength Criterion is : 1,Stat. numeral character of parameter by alarge of values;2,Confirm the statistic character of random variables, choose thecorresponding calculate step;3,Process reliability calculate by iterative method tillerror less than allowed range. The value is reliability of aim function.In this thesis, the method is applied to analysis the stability of diggings wallrock of zijinshan gold mine. The result indicate that reliability value is accordant tothe fixed method.
