In this paper, many localization and detection methods of harmonic source in powerdistribution network are described in detail firstly, their advantages, disadvantages andprinciples are analyzed. Then, a new method based on the partial least-squaresregression for assessing harmonic impedance and the harmonic emission level ispresented. New method combined with power system Thevenin equivalent and customerNorton equivalent, regression equations can be obtained from system parameter. Utilizingthe signals of harmonic voltage and harmonic current measured synchronously at PCC,regression coefficients are worked out through partial least-squares algorithm. Then theharmonic impedance of system is got, consequently the harmonic emission level ofcustomer and system background harmonic is calculated. The simulation analysis and theanalytic result of practical engineering road-testing data indicate that the proposedmethod is valid and feasible.
