With the development of the electric power system, area mode low-frequency oscillationis one important factor to affect the stability and the transfer capability of power system.Currently, the parameters of power system stabilizer (PSS) are calculated off-line, and thecurrent oscillation multi-modes of the real system are not taken into account. It will result inthe low-frequency oscillation of the power system because of lacking of damping. This thesispresents Prony analysis based approach to adjust the parameters of PSS on line. This methodis to calculate frequency, damping and phase of the state variables. By measuring the phasesbetween E q'and ω prior to adding the damp and posterior, it is possible to calculate thephase lag and then a supervisory controller can select the generator which participatingdamping the oscillation. The optimal parameters of PSS can be derived. Simulation analysisverified the effectiveness of the method.
